An intensive course on early detection of breast cancer was conducted on May 14 to 18 in Tartu Health Care College. 27 health care professionals/educators from Estonia, Finland, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland took part in the course. In addition to the onsite participants there were also online participants from different countries like Ireland, Finland, Sweden and Malta. The training included different ways of teaching and learning, giving an interesting overview of e-learning and the inter-professional approach to be used in practice and teaching/learning. The participants were also given an opportunity to interpret and implement the principles that had been covered in lectures. Some lectures were face-to-face the others were conducted online, the lecturers being in Finland and in Canada. Workshop groups involved participants from different countries and professional fields like radiographers, nurses and biomedical laboratory scientists. Each day a separate workshop group was formed of online participants. The participant feedback showed that the intensive course was really intensive but at the same time interesting and everybody is looking forward to have an opportunity to use the learning modules prepared in the EBreast course. This will happen after the end of the project, it means in September, 2018.

Breast cancer is a serious issue and even the invitation to breast cancer examinations may cause worry to the clients. Especially in case suspicious or malignant findings are present it is very important that the client gets the services fluently and that the diagnostic services are seamless and no unnecessary delays happen. This is also important for the safety and cost effectiveness of health care services. This e-learning course aims to give health care professionals being involved in these services an overview of each others’ roles and work descriptions and a holistic viewpoint to the breast cancer diagnostic process. The International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT) involves over 90 Member Societies of radiographers, representing more than 86 countries across the world. The 20th ISRRT World Congress was held 12-15 April 2018 in Trinidad and Tobago, providing an opportunity for radiographers and radiological technologists to share information on the latest developments in the field in order to advance the profession. Two presentations related to the EBreast project were made by Bergliot Strøm, representing the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. Her first presentation introduced the results of an integrative review on interprofessional work in early detection of breast cancer. The second presentation was about the challenges in mammography education and training today from the perspectives of teachers/mentors and students in five European countries. As the topic of an interprofessional approach in early detection of breast cancer is extremely relevant all over the world, a high interest in both presentations was demonstrated by a number of questions and comments from the audience after the presentations. The comments and questions were related to the EBreast project as well as to the literature review and the survey.
