In addition to the quantitative research approach a qualitative approach is implemented in the research activities of the project to clarify the challenges of mammography education and clinical practice identified in our prior surveys. For this purpose two focus group interviews were carried out over Skype. A focus group interview, involving teachers and radiographers from all the participating countries took place on 21.4.2016., another interview with radiography students from all the participating countries was carried out on 26.5.2016. The interview results are analysed using thematic analysis. These results give additional evidence for the development of the e-learning modules in this project.

Data for the first research study were collected from February 21 to March 31 in 2016, involving 97 radiography students, 16 members of academic staff and 140 clinical radiographers in Finland, Estonia, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland. It was a challenging task to collect data in different languages in all the partner countries and to compile the data into one statistical database. Results of the survey help to identify the main difficulties, challenges, opportunities and needs in mammography education in the participating countries from the student, teacher and clinical practitioner perspectives. These results provide the evidence base for the development of the e-learning modules in this project.
