Overview
In the first phase of the project a mixed-method study is conducted, involving partner institutions in Finland, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland, to identify the radiographer challenges of mammography training and clinical practice. Based on the study results and literature reviews three open-access e-learning modules are prepared for health care staff working in the service chain of breast cancer detection. The first e-learning module focuses on early breast cancer detection and diagnostic procedures, targeted to nurses, radiographers, biomedical laboratory scientists and lecturers in the field. The second module focuses on breast screening, imaging and quality assurance competences for radiographers, and the third module on competences of further examinations and new imaging and laboratory methods for radiographers and biomedical laboratory scientists. The project includes also an intensive study programme on interprofessional teaching and learning for health care lecturers and staff.
Open access e-learning modules using interprofessional education approach, and articles demonstrating the results of the mix-method study and literature reviews conducted within the project should improve co-operation between different professional groups in the pre-diagnostic process for breast cancer patients, and consequently in better services for women entering the breast cancer diagnostic process not only in the countries participating in the project but also across whole Europe.
