Research results of the EBreast project will be presented at the 62nd Nordic Congress of Radiology and 23rd Nordic Congress of Radiography in Reykjavik in the change of June-July 2017 http://ncr2017.is/. An abstract entitled ‘Mammography quality control practices in five European countries’ was accepted for oral presentation.

Two oral presentations about the EBreast project were made at the ECR 2017 on Thursday, the 2nd March. One presentation was made by José Pirés Jorge entitled ‘Student, teaching staff and clinical radiographer perspectives about difficulties and challenges in mammography education and training”. The other presentation was made by Eija Metsälä with the title ‘Radiographers’ practice in mammography departments: challenges in training and clinical performance’. The feedback by the audience was that the studies have real implications on mammography education, equipment usability and they develop clinical practice in mammography.
The objective of the study accepted to be published in Insights into Imaging (20.12.2016) was to identify European radiographers’ challenges in clinical performance in mammography and the main areas of mammography that require more and better training. This study concluded that the introduction of harmonized mammography guidelines across Europe serve as an evidence-based tool to be implemented in practice and education. Two abstracts on the EBreast project were accepted and the presentations will be made at the European Congress of Radiology in 2017. These presentations will take place in the breast imaging session for radiographers (SS 714) on Thursday March 2, 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. One of the presentations reports on radiography student and teacher viewpoints of mammography education, including internships, based on the survey results from five European countries. The other presentation considers challenges of mammography training and clinical practice, inspecting the results of the studies published in 2010 to 2015 about this topic. Based on the results of these studies the project group continues its work constructing eLearning modules in an evidence-based way.
The second transnational meeting of the project group took place in October 6 to 7 and it was hosted by our Portuguese partner Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde de Lisboa. The meeting was focussing on the results of the first year of the project life time that was mainly research oriented to collect evidence for the development of the e-learning modules. We also discussed the options to present and publish our research results. The other relevant aspect of the meeting was further development of our first e-learning module dedicated to the interprofessional approach in early breast cancer detection and diagnostic procedures, involving nurses, radiographers, biomedical laboratory scientists and lecturers in the field.
It is always part of our transnational meetings to learn about local conditions of the partner institution and the country. So, we had an opportunity to visit the skills labs and other host institution facilities related to their studies and research (see Gallery). We could also visit some of the most attractive sightseeing areas of Lisboa. |
